Acidic Blood leads poor health
The balance of Acid and Alkaline is important to your health.
Healthy blood is supposed to be around between pH 7.35 to 7.43
(slightly alkaline).
* pH scale from 1 to 14, and 7 is the neutral scale. 1 to 7 is acidid,
while 7 to 14 is alkaline.
This perfect balance is essential for all the major physiological
function from digestion, cardio to respiratory system.
Also this slightly alkaline” condition gives us stronger resiliency to
recover quickly from illnesses such as flu/colds, allergy, etc etc.
* To maintain a safe balance, our body has amazing automatic
mechanism. And liver is one of the most important organs that
alkalize the blood when you take acidic food/drink, by filtering the
toxic waste and acids from the blood stream.
Too acidic condition (below 6.95) can result in a diabetic coma
and be fatal.
Also too high alkaline (over 7.7) can result in death, too.
Our modern diet tends to make our body more acidic, causing so
many health problems such as...
headaches, fatigue, osteoporosis, and increases the risk of
infections such as colds/flu (acidic blood attracts bugs!) or even
serious diseases such as cancers.
* in 2007, antacid market made more than $1.09 billion. And in
the US alone, over 62 million people suffer from gastrointestinal
problems such as acid reflux, heart burn, or “gassy condition” etc,
caused by excess acidic foods from the modern diet. A.k.a, meat,
sugar, and dairy!
When this happens, our body tries to balance out by using our
own alkaline (minerals stored in our body) to go back to around
pH7.3,
But the modern diet is lack of minerals, too, so our blood tends to
be chronically acidic.
* Dairy food like milk itself contains calcium, but it is very acidic.
So in the process of digestion, our body consumes lots of calcium
stored in our body, and overtime, we lose calcium!
It is ironic that in Norway, one of the world’s biggest milk
consuming countries, has the highest rate of osteoporosis.

* refined sugar and fruits itself is alkaline, but once inside the
blood stream, it turns strong acid.

As a rule of thumbs, opposites can neutralize each other.

*small portion can be very beneficial to neutralize the extreme
acidic food/drink.
For example, after consuming alcohol, or sugary dessert,
umeboshi (or umesho-bancha tea) or miso soup is very
comforting and good for “balances out”.

* In many cultures, people use some alkaline substances to
prepare grains or beans to neutralize their slightly acidic value.

but of course, it is better to eat foods closer to the center, instead
of "extremes".
Even from acid-alkaline balance point of view, it makes sense to
eat more plant based diet.
