Decide what you can do from the lists below, and start today. 

Now pay attention to how your body responds and how you feel. I strongly recommend you write a food journal, too.

If you have some positive effect, or feel good about it, add more “things to do” and continue.

By the time you actually see me in counseling session, cooking classes or workshops, you may already know the power of food!

                     10-Day “Cleansing” Challenge -- Feel the Power of Foods

You can feel the power of food when you STOP EATING certain foods, more so than start eating new foods. As a start, try this "10-Day Cleansing Challenge", by choosing at least one (or more if you can) of the food listed below, which are some of the main inflammation causing / acid-forming / nutrients-stealing foods. Eliminate from your diet just for 10 days and see how you feel. *Pick the foods that you regularly consume, especially the “BIG 2”.

 BIG 2

   +DAIRY

      cheese, butter, milk, yogurt, sour cream, ice cream, frozen yogurt, smoothie

   +SUGAR

      white sugar, artificial sweeteners, stevia, sodas, chocolate

 

 OTHERS

   +RED MEAT

   +CHICKEN, TURKEY & OTHER POULTRY

   +PROCESSED FOOD, MICROWAVE MEAL, FOOD ADDITIVE & CHEMICALS (MSG)

   +TABLE SALT   regular salt, both at home and restaurant/take-out

   +BAKED & YEASTED FLOUR PRODUCTS   cookies, pastry, chips, crackers, pretzels

   +REFINED GRAINS  white bread, white pasta, white rice etc

   +UNNECESSARY SUPPLEMENTS & PILLS

Once you've done this 10-Day Challenge, just reduce the volume and frequency of these food, if not completely. That small change can make a BIG difference!

 

Introduce New Healthy Foods

Meanwhile, gradually introduce healthy antioxidant & fiber rich foods to your regular meals, and see how your body responds. 

+WHOLE GRAINS

Choose whole grains such as brown rice, quinoa, barley, millet, steel cut oat, whole wheat pasta/ bread over refined (white) version. 

+DARK LEAFY GREENS

Eat these antioxidant-fiber-rich super foods everyday, such as kale, collard greens, bok choy, napa cabbage, broccoli rabe, arugula, water cress, turnip greens, radish greens, and even carrot greens. But please don't over cook them. Just salad or steam is good : )

+VARIETY OF COOKED VEGETABLES

Not just salad or greens, but eat variety of vegetables, such as onion, cabbage, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, daikon, parsnips. turnips, radish, sweet potatoes, etc. Each one has its unique flavor and different nutrients.

+NATURALLY FERMENTED, BRINE BASED PICKLES

Health of your gut environment determines your over all health. Eat plant based probiotic foods every day, such as  sauerkraut, takuwan, and other brine based pickles w/ no sugar, vinegar or additives. Get organic ones at health food store or make your own!

+HOME MADE MISO SOUP

"one cup of miso soup a day keeps a doctor away". Many people reported amazing results just by eating miso soup on a regular basis. Experience its miracle power yourself! Home made, please!

Now, when you are ready, develop your "daily diet" based on the HFD format.

Make sure you cover all the categories of food above in one day.

Last but not least, "decluttering". We reach for unhealthy food because they are there! Get rid of unhealthy choices of food from your home!

   +REFINED TABLE SALT

   +SODA, SUGARY DRINK, ENERGY DRINK

   +CANDIES, COOKIES, POTATO CHIPS &OTHER UNHEALTHY SNACKS

   +ICE CREAM, SORBET, FROZEN YOGURT, & OTHER ICE COLD SUGARY FOODS

   +FOOD AND SEASONINGS W/ ADDITIVES & CHEMICALS

   +FROZEN, CANNED, MICROWAVE MEAL, & OTHER OVER-PROCESSED FOODS

   +EXPIRED FOODS, SEASONINGS

Other Good Things You Can Do for Yourself

+chew at least 30 times per mouthful

+no food / drink after 9pm

+have regularity in life, such as time to eat meals, sleep and get up

+walk in the park for 30 min per day, or other gentle exercise everyday

+meditation at least 5min a day

+sing, dance & laugh : )

+be grateful for everything!

 

Now, ask yourself, "Why do I want to do this?".

If you have a clear answer, clear goals, then visualize concrete images of the life you want to live.  

Now, with that image in your mind, start moving toward the goals.
