There are so many fun & unique ways to celebrate birthdays these days. And apparently, throwing a "cooking party" is one of the trends, especially when the BD girl or boy loves cooking or is on a special diet like vegan, gluten free or macrobiotics.
Such was the case last weekend, a beautiful Saturday afternoon in early May, and a group of young people (5 from France & 1 from US) organized this special party for their best friend, who is vegan and gluten free.
We discussed the menu in advance by email, and created 3 simple, healthy and delicious dishes using favorite ingredients of the BD girl. (beans, sweet potatoes, strawberry, peanut etc)
The menu was :
1 Japanese style, soy-ginger marinated tofu "fried chicken"
2 Non-fry, sweet potato & brown rice croquet with miso-amazake sauce
3 Azuki bean -chocolate truffle with coconut flake coating & sugar-free strawberry sauce
and spring salad with miso-rice vinegar dressing
They told me that they basically eat at home almost everyday together, and they clearly know how to cook & enjoy fresh whole foods (so French!) . But cooking Asian dishes, using miso, soy sauce, and tofu, seemed to be a new experience to many.
After a hard work, a bottle of chilled Champagne was popped open, and all enjoyed a good conversation with the delicious foods they made together. It was as if I were at a lovely weekend brunch in somewhere in France. And the foods were all gone!
Most importantly, the BD girl seemed to be having a good time : )
Just a note in passing, a question raised by one of the attendants, "what's the secret of staying (looking) young?"
I didn't give a clear answer, but this would be what I usually tell people,
"a cup of MISO SOUP a day"!
Miso is a great probiotic food, which not only improve your digestion, but also immune system, and even mental health. (miso soup is a "happy soup"!)
Miso is also a powerful detox food to prevent toxins from staying inside our body, thus clear, smooth and radiant skin!
It's a secret of Japanese' health and longevity as well! click here for miso soup recipe
