Big Balance – Consumption and Elimination

Large Intestine/Colon

Our body systems are constantly working to maintain balance.
The balance of “consumption and elimination”.
Main organs for the elimination are lungs, kidneys, large
intestines and skin.

But when we over consume, more than these organs can
handle, they will get overwhelmed, overworked, and eventually
stop functioning properly.
And “accumulation”, especially fat and protein, takes place.
This accumulation is the underlying cause of all sorts of health
problems, including stones, cysts, tumors and cancers.

Last month, I talked about Lungs, which are most active and
also sensitive to the Fall.
This month, I talk about another organ that is also active in this
season.

Large intestine (colon).

These days, especially in developed countries, so many of us
have some kind of problems related to colon or large intestine.
From constipation, diarrhea to hemorrhoids to IBS to colitis, etc.
Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of death in this
country.

Main causes

This is an easy and clear example of how our daily diet causes
health problems.
Especially from “Big Balance—consumption and elimination”
point of view.

Colon problems arise mainly from over consumption of animal
foods, refined carbohydrates (white sugar, white flour etc), and
processed food.
Excess protein, especially animal source, can turn into polyps,
and overtime develop into pre cancerous tumors.
And lack of fiber rich food (whole grains, vegetables) enhances
the problems.

This is exactly what so-called “modern diet” consists of!
This dietary habit, in the long run,  overwhelms digestive
system, and create abnormal intestinal environment full of
“harmful bacteria”.

* Macro(big) point of view

Animal foods(including dairy) in general cannot be digested
completely in our body.
Undigested substances will decompose inside our intestines
and eventually rot, produce toxic gases, and disturb whole
intestinal environment.

Small portion and infrequent consumption may not be a big
problem, but regular eating in big amount can.
Overtime, more harmful bacteria thrive and oust beneficial
bacteria in the intestines, create a hotbed of all types of
diseases.

Biologically speaking, animal food is not supposed to be the
human’s principal food.
When we look at the teeth, for example, 20 out of 32 teeth are
molars and premolars, which are to grind and chew grains, 8 of
them, incisors for vegetables and fruits, and only 4 are canines
to eat animal food.

Also our rather long intestines are not designed to digest
animal food, either.
They are for plant based, fiber rich food to be digested slowly.
(animal food will decompose and rot inside!)
Since we started to eat modern diet (in disharmony with this
natural order), all sorts of diseases has spread.

Visual Signs of Colon Problems

Lower lips

Lips are related to whole digestive system. Upper lip to upper
organs such as stomach, and lower part to small/large intestine,
due to human’s embryonic development.

Swollen?

If lower lip is swollen, that indicates that your large intestine is
also somewhat swollen, caused by excess sugar, fruits, juice,
and refined flour. Also possible inflammation due to excess
animal foods.
You may be experiencing constipation or bloating(gas) due to
the loosening of colon muscle, or if the lip is wet, diarrhea. (of
course, unless you have some lip job done)

Color

White
Fatty mucus may be accumulating in the colon, due to excess
dairy foods.

Yellow
Excessive consumption of cheese, eggs, poultry, and other
animal fat, indicating liver is also exhausted.

Black spot
Discharge of excessive simple carbs, such as sugar, honey,
fruit sugar.

Cold sore
Excess acidity in digestive system

Forehead

Forehead is also related to digestive system
If there are many, deep wrinkles (under the age of 50), that
indicates that you are taking too much liquid, and weakening
intestines.

Solutions

Again, everything that we take in has to be eliminated.(Big
Balance)
Excess consumption will eventually overwhelm our system, and
cause problems.

Cut down “hard to digest” food such as
meat and dairy, as well
as
sugar and other refined, processed foods.
or even eliminate those food from your diet if you already have
colon related problems for a while.
Avoid
excess liquid, especially cold drink, which weaken
(loosen and swell) colon.

Eat more
fiber rich food. which helps eliminate harmful
bacteria, and strengthen intestines.

Fiber as well as minerals and other important nutrients are
stripped away in the refining process, so eat in whole forms as
much as possible.
Whole grains are especially rich in fibers.
Vegetables, especially
root veggies such as carrot, daikon,
parsnip, gobo are all also fibers rich food.
Do not discard
stems or skin of veggies when you cook.
They are also full of fibers.

Eat
plant based fermented foods to promote friendly
bacteria such as miso, natural soy sauce, pickles(umeboshi,
sauerkraut etc).

Chewing

Chewing well help digestion and put much less stress on
digestive systems including intestines.
