Healthy Nose for Allergy and Colds
The skin on the inside of ears and nose is our first line of defense.
The nasal passages are lined with a thin layer of mucus that traps
impurities such as dirt, dust, and pollen, and moves to the rear of the
nasal cavity and settles in the throat, where it is swallowed.
If the mucus becomes too thick or too thin,--- caused by poor diet,
weakened immune system etc--- it is easier for bacteria and viruses
to penetrate the nasal lining and cause swelling, and excess
discharge of mucus. ---common symptom of colds and allergy.
So it’s important to keep your nasal passage appropriately
moisturized and cleansed so we can fend off allergens and viruses
at the first stage.
Nasal Cleansing, Neti Pot ---nasal irrigation pot
Nasal cleansing with salted warm water is an ancient Indian yogic
tradition to sooth dry nasal passage, gently wash away dust ,pollen,
excess mucus and environmental irritants.
And it reduces symptoms of allergies, colds , flu and other nasal
problems.
Studies indicate that nasal irrigation is a highly effective, minimally
invasive intervention for people suffering from nasal issues.
Also it is said to be good to improve the sense of smell, taste, and
sharpen vision and even reduce snoring.
Make it a habit to do nasal cleansing.
: Do it when you wake up, clear your nostrils and start the day
breathing freely!
: Use it to remove excess mucus.
: Do it several times a day during allergy season to wash away
pollen, dust, and other irritants.
: Use it after being in a dry environment.
When I first heard of it, I was skeptical.
And the first try, it felt a bit strange.
But once it’s become my everyday routine, I just LOVE it!
Not just can I breath freely, but clears my head, and gives me lots of
energy.
And it really helps when I’m feeling like catching a cold or have sinus
congestions. --- of course, diet is one of the main cause, though.
You can get a Neti Pot at health food stores, whole foods or yoga
shops.
