Healthy Summer : )
Summer foods that cools you down
the nature always offers what’s best for us.
Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumber, corn, okra, and other
leafy greens….
Those veggies naturally cools your body from inside.
Unless you are being sick or weak, enjoy those yin veggies for
this yang season! : )
---Certain veggies such as tomatoes, peppers, egg plants are a
bit too yin, which could cool your body system too much, and
cause some health troubles.
So, if you are feeling weak or sick, avoid or minimize those
veggies for a while.
Or there are some ways to add yang energy to them.
Adding some sea salt or cooking with heat can pacify the too
much yin energy.
How about grilled veggies for BBQ? or nice tomato soup/sauce
with whole wheat pasta, anyone?
Summer fruits!! but in moderation, please
The Summer is full of delicious fruits, too!
Peach, apricot, berries, plum, …
But again, in moderation!
Too much fruit sugar---as well as any other forms of sugar, or
even some extreme yin such as drug/medicines--- causes skin
problems like freckles or pimples on your face and body, and
overtime, disturbs the intestines, heart, kidneys and lungs.
Because of the yin energy in them, the sun (yang) aggravates
this symptom.
---The sun (ultra violet) alone does not necessarily create
freckles.
People who have lots of freckles in summer tend to eat too much
fruits or drink too much juice in the season. Or ice cream! Oops,
that's me : (
Release heat from your body, for healthy autumn
If the heat and moisture inside the body are not well released
during the summer, through sweating, for example, the moisture
accumulates in lungs and you could have troubles in the fall, such
as cough and other respiratory problems.
And sweets prevent the heat and moisture from being released.
So be careful of eating too much ice cream or other dessert in
summer!
Ok, im speaking to myself again…
Tips for summer
1 Sweat!!
Go outside and release the heat from your body, instead of being
in an air conditioned room all day.
2 Eat Corn : )
Corn is a whole grain and has relatively "neutral" energy, not too
yin nor too yang.
Corn helps release the heat and moisture from your body by
urination.
Also high in vitamins (Bs) and minerals.
And good for constipation, too! --- high in fiber.
---according to oriental medical philosophy, large intestine is
related to lungs, and those organs are most affected by the
Autumn.
So keeping large intestine healthy by eating corn, or anything
high in fiber, is also good for the lung.
Have some local corn by steaming, grilling or make salad or soup
and enjoy the summer, AND prepare for the next season at the
same time! : )
