Natural, Healthy Weight Control
– cutting the vicious cycle

Sugar turns into fat

As we all know, simple carbohydrates such as sugar and refined
foods (white bread, pasta, rice etc) is one of the biggest culprit for
weight gain.

Glucose first turns into glycogen, and is stored in the liver for later
use.
When in excess, however, it turns into fat, stored in the liver, then
the excess fats go back into blood stream, look for less active parts
of the body to be stored and accumulated.(weight gain)

Crave for sugar

In modern diet, the main source of calories is from animal foods.
Animal foods such as meat, chicken, eggs, cheese etc.
Animal food itself contains huge amount of fat, as well as
concentrated protein.
So eating excessive amount of animal food is another cause for
weight gain.

But more importantly, they do not supply the most necessary
nutrient to the human body, which is
glucose.

Glucose is the main energy source for trillions of body cells, and
especially crucial to the brain function.
So eating animal food as the main food, as in modern diet,
naturally makes our body crave some easy and quick source of
glucose for normal bodily function.
Something that’s concentrated in glucose, and can be quickly
absorbed into the body.
Yes, simple sugar (simple carbs).

That’s why people, especially those who consumes large amount of
animal foods, crave simple, refined sugar.

Vicious cycle

From yin and yang point of view, animal foods are extreme yang,
while simple sugar is extreme yin.
Also, salt is strong yang.

As the rule says, “opposite attracts”, eating animal foods (high in
protein and sodium) or simply salty foods makes our body crave
sugar, such as sweets or alcohol for a balance.
And vise versa.
Eating sugar makes our body crave more animal foods or salty
foods.(sounds familiar?)
Then again, more simple carbs.

It looks as if the body is “making a balance”.
But it’s not a good, healthy sort.
It’s more like a “extreme roller coaster ride”.
Eventually the body will get exhausted.
It’s a vicious cycle.

Cut the cycle

Going on a diet, losing weight, and keeping the healthy weight is
hard.
Why?
Is this all about “will power”?
You go off the wagon because you are weak?
Well, you may work on that, too.
But in a more practical sense, it’s better to cut this vicious cycle
somewhere.

As I mentioned before, high protein, high fat diet (typical modern
“meat oriented” diet) does not supply adequate amount of glucose,
which is crucial to the brain function, as well as the main energy
source of all the body cells.
We have to change this pattern.
That is, cut down on animal food consumption!

****
If you are vegetarian, and still cannot stop eating sugar...
There are several possible reasons.
One is excessive sodium intake, including processed foods or
simply eating out too often.(or maybe cheese?)
Another possibility is weak spleen/pancrease.
The organ cannot sufficiently regulate glucose level in the blood,
and your blood sugar level is chronically low, which may have been
caused by excess sugar, fruit, juice, alcohol etc.

Eat whole grains –"human foods"

Human beings have evolved by eating (cooked) whole cereal
grains (high in complex carbs, which turns into glucose).
That’s how our brain became so big and complex, and it’s made us
human beings. This unique creature.

Most tissue in the body can utilize protein and fat for energy in
case glucose is lacking.
This is the main theory behind “high protein, low carb diet”, by the
way.
But the brain can utilize only glucose from carbohydrates source
for its function.

When you look at your teeth, 20 out of 32 teeth are molars and
premolars, which are designed to grind grains.
Only 4 are canine teeth.

Our daily diet should follow this biological proportion, too.
Whole cereal grains, whose main nutrient is complex
carbohydrates, should be the main food in each meal.

While simple carbs turn into glucose so quickly that they have so
many negative effects on the body, complex carbs (whole grains,
vegetables) burn so slowly and gently that they do not upset the
sugar metabolism, and give slow, sustainable supply of energy to
the body cells and brain function.
This way, you can naturally reduce the crave for simple sugar.(also
portion control in general)
Eating whole grains as the principal food is the most natural and
healthy way to control the sugar craving.

****
Additionally, studies have shown that eating whole grains reduce
the risk of diabetes and heart diseases, as well as some cancers,
thanks to the high fiber and antioxidants content in them.

My suggestions for natural weight control

If you can cut down on sugar and white bread easily, go right
ahead.
But I suspect that unless you cut down on animal foods or salty
foods, you will eventually crave those foods again, and experience
the “rebound”.

Suggestion from me, as well as US government or WHO, is to eat
whole cereal grains as the principal foods, and cut down on animal
food intake.
That is more practical, and sustainable for both our own health and
the planet earth : )
