Kidneys –The foundation of  whole body

According to Eastern medicine, Kidneys are considered to be the
f
oundation of our body (jing), and source of energy and overall
vitality.
And “Kidneys” in Eastern medicine include kidneys, bladder, adrenal
glands, reproductive/sex organs and their whole functions.

Also, kidneys are considered to be related to ears and their functions.

The main function of kidneys are

1 Filter and recycle liquid  in the body (50 gallons a day!)
2 Process minerals and send them to blood and other body  fluids to
maintain mineral balance(pH 7.4)and keep blood/body fluids from
being too acidic/too alkaline.
3 Eliminate waste (uria etc) through urine

And the organs are most active and most susceptible to
Winter (cold
weather).

Signals of weak kidneys

Kidneys are so strong that they keep working without showing any
signs in blood test until they lose 90% of the function!

However, there are symptoms that indicates that your kidneys may be
in trouble, such as ...

Frequent urination (3 to 5 per day is normal)
Urination after going to bed
* this leads to excess elimination of minerals.
Cold hands and feet
Chronic low back pain
Frequent infections (athlete foot, candida, yeast infection, colds/ flu,
ear infection, etc)
Premature aging (premature gray hair etc)
skin problems (Itchy skin etc)
sore throat
Ear, hearing problems
Negative emotional state
Fatigue, low energy, lack of vitality, and overall weakness

Causes

There are several factors that weaken kidneys.
For example, kidneys are especially susceptible to
coldness.

But main causes are
food that produce excess waste such as animal
foods, simple carbs, as well as
excess salt and liquid, which all
overburden and overwhelm the organs.

1 High proteins

Animal foods are most protein dense food, and excess consumption
produce too much waste(acids) for the kidneys to deal with.

Especially
dairy overwhelms and put huge stress on kidneys.

*although we need to take protein everyday, modern diet includes
excessive amount of protein, especially from animal source, which is
overwhelming the
entire body system.

2 Simple carbs (simple sugar)

Simple sugar(including fruits and juice), refined(white) flour products
(white bread, pastry etc) also overtax kidneys.
Those foods are all acid forming.
And to maintain ‘slightly alkaline” balance in the body fluid (pH 7.4),
kidneys have to work even harder to maintain the mineral balance in
the body.

3 Excess liquid, caffeine, alcohol

They all have to be filtered through the kidneys, that's aside from 50
gallon of body liquid that the organs are processing daily!
Especially cold, or carbonated(acid forming) drinks weaken kidneys.

Even water in excess can overtax the organs.

Kidney problems

1 Tighten, contracted kidneys

restricts free flow of blood
caused by excess salt, animal foods, salty animal food (cheese etc),
baked food
stressful busy life style

symptoms

insomnia, grinding teeth, night urination, coldness, sleep walking,
excess sex drive at night

2 Swollen, loose kidneys

caused by excess liquid, fruits, juice, alcohol, stimulant(caffeine etc),
inactive life style

symptoms

chronic back pain, snoring, crying during sleep
, coldness, insomnia,
fear (emotion)

Visual diagnosis

there are some visual signs that show the kidneys may be in trouble

Around eyes

Dark, black color, especially under the eyes (eye bags)
* this shows the poor quality of blood, caused by weakening kidney’s
detox function

Swollen, puffy eye bags
*
this indicates kidneys is swollen by excess liquid

White pimples under the eyes (fat/mucus deposit)
* this shows possible formation of cysts or stone in kidneys

Ears / hearing

Redness around ear ridge
*
this may indicate contraction in kidneys, caused by too much salt
and animal food

Oily ears, moles/warts in ears
*kidneys overworking, caused by excess fat, oil

Ringing in the ears
*discharge of excess sugar, juice, fruits, oily/greasy food, drug,
medicine, chemicals

Others

Wet (cold) hands/feet, frequent crying(tears), watery voice, athlete
foot, etc
All caused by excess liquid, sugar, fruits, juice intake

Tendency of character

Those with overly tight kidneys tend to be...
Aggressive, even violent, stubborn, and insensitive to others or
surroundings, due to excess salt and animal foods.

Those with weak, exhausted kidneys tend to be...
Passive, fearful, lazy, procrastinating, lack of courage, loss appetite
for food and sex

For Healthy, Happy Kidneys : )

Foods to avoid or minimize

Animal source
Saturated fats
Cold food/drink
Stimulant (coffee, tea, spices, alcohol) – overwhelms adrenal glands
Drugs, chemicals
Refined sugar
Table salt

Foods to add

Whole grains ---barley, brown rice, buckwheat
Sea vegetables (strong alkaline)
Root vegetables (strengthening)
Adzuki bean, kidneys bean, black soy bean (diuretic effect)
Good quality of sea salt ---miso, soy sauce, umeboshi

Others (life style)

1 Walking
It stimulates circulation of blood, vital energy, strengthening lower
parts of body
, including kidneys, helps discharge toxins through feet

2
Avoid exposing low back to coldness.
Warming the kidney area is helpful to bring heat, circulation, blood
and oxygen to the organs.
Apply hot tpwel or hot ginger compress on middle/low back
Wear haramaki

3
Salt bath
It helps mineral balance in the body, which nourishes the kidneys.

Emotionally, kidneys are associated with “fear”
Horror movies, for example, are not good for healthy kidneys
Excess sex also depletes the energy from kidneys and weaken them.

Easy Exercise

Massage your back
Touch the toe bending with deep breathing (stretches and brings
oxygen to  the kidneys)
Percussion (tap tap tap) on low back to stimulate
Foot massage

and "Smile" to your kidneys : )

How much protein is needed?

Required daily protein varies depends
on the person (sex, size, age, activity
level etc), but is set around 50 to 60g.
On average, American are taking 114g
of protein daily, which is way too much
for the body to process, and producing
all the waste, leading to chronic acidic
condition.
