Lungs and Fall
According to the Eastern philosophy, the lungs are most
affected by autumn, and we tend to develop lung-related
health problems.
Coughing, sneezing are most commonly seen in this dry
season as well as colds/flu, and those are the signs that
lungs are trying to eliminate excess water and toxins from
the body.
Face talks
On your face, cheeks show the condition of your lungs.
Reddish color? The lungs may have inflammation.
Caused by too much intake of sugar, fruits, liquid and
other yin quality food/drink.
Pale? Your lungs might be weakened.
Pimples? Mucus and fat are accumulating in your lungs.
Over consumption of dairy may be the cause.
What weakens lungs?
Dairy
Lungs are surrounded and intertwined with lots of lymph
channels, which protect us from viruses and bacteria.
Milk and other dairy foods--- whose proteins and fat are
too big to be processed by our body system ---clog the
lymph circulation and weaken the immune system.
Also dairy foods are mucus forming and eventually
accumulate around the lung sacs, which become sticky,
and toxins (carcinogens) from polluted air or smoking stick
to the lungs.
This condition also makes breathing harder.
So it's better to avoid over consumption of milk and other
dairy foods, especially cheese.

Sugar
* Latin American researchers found that consumption of
sugar-rich food increased the risk of lung cancer by 55%.

Dryness
Lungs dislike dryness and need a certain moist.
So keep the room appropriately humid.
Also cut down on dry, baked food, such as bread, cookies,
crackers, chips and other baked foods.
But too much liquid also weaken the lungs. So be cautious!
Foods to nurture lungs --more plant based diet
This is the season when grains are harvested : )
Especially rice—whole rice—is most delicious, nutritious,
and full of energy.
Eat more whole grains!
Natural bitter taste also nurtures lungs.
Daikon radish, onion, ginger are very good to eat this
season.
Lotus root has been considered “medicinal food for
lungs” in Eastern cultures.
Greens, especially broccoli, daikon tops, turnip tops,
carrot tops are good for lungs. (steam or blanch)
Azuki bean, according to a Japanese study, inhibits lung
cancer and melanoma.
* the report says that the hot water extract of azuki
significantly reduce the number of lung tumor colonies.
Miso also protect against lung cancer, according to
laboratory study in Hiroshima, Japan.
Self care
Massage ---thumbs, index finger
Lung meridian runs through thumbs.
Also, large intestine is related to lungs, and its meridian
runs through index finger.
Massage those two stimulate qi energy in lungs and large
intestine.
“Gorilla exercise”
Tap your chest with fists and make noise with your mouth
open like gorilla!
This also stimulates the lungs : )
Sadness or happiness --- Smile to the lungs : )
Lungs are related to sadness.
Some people—including myself!-- tend to be melancholic
this season.
If you feel melancholic, your lungs may be weak.
And being stuck to the feeling makes lungs even weaker,
while being happy and positive does make lungs happy
and healthy : )
Smile, laugh and sing happy songs to give positive
energy to the organs!
