Macrobiotic
Healing Diet
Macrobiotics is an ultimate healing diet

The goal

Health is not just the physical state of absence of diseases.
It is a condition where you feel happy, grateful and peaceful on
physical, emotional and spiritual level, and energetic enough to
pursue your dream, even with obstacles.

The goal of this diet is to develop the ability to listen to your body, find
the right food for yourself depends on the conditions, and restore true
sense of balance and control in your life.

By eating
whole, living food, in harmony with the order of the universe
(season, the environment you live in, and the moon cycle etc), and
avoiding or minimizing "extreme foods", you will be able to achieve the
goal.

The basic meal should consist of

Whole grains as the main dish
--- most balanced, not too yin or not too yang, foods and suitable for
most of us.
Seasonal vegetables, locally and organically grown
Beans, bean products --- good source of protein and other nutrition.
Sea vegetables --- good source of minerals, including calcium. ---
more calcium than milk! and vitamins, some includes vitamin B12.
Soup

Occasionally consume
Fruits, nuts, seeds, sea foods, fish

Avoid or minimize (extreme foods, which have extreme effects on body)
Meat, eggs, dairy foods, refined foods, processed foods, simple
sugars, and foods that come from tropical climate, such as tomatoes,
egg plants, peppers --- too yin, and not very suitable for people living
in temperate climate---, supplement ,drugs.

The benefits of eating Macrobiotic diet are

1)        maintain physical, psychological health
2)        prevent disease
3)        help recover from health challenges
4)        bring true happiness and joy to your eating life

other benefits includes
1)        right weight for your body
2)        naturally beautiful skin

why whole grains?

We human beings have evolved by eating cooked whole grains.
When you look at your own teeth, more than half of them--20-- are
designated to chew grains, while only 4 of them are for eating meat or
animal foods.---the rest are for vegetables, nuts, seeds and fruits.
Also, the sky has yin energy while the earth has yang. And we stand in
between, "neutral" or "center"
So, only when we keep our energy in balance---not too yin or not too
yang, we can naturally stay healthy in physical, emotional and spiritual
level.

Whole grains have the most balanced
"neutral" energy.
That’s why the main dish is supposed
to be whole grains.
In fact, in Japan, they call rice
“the main dish” and the rest “side dishes”

Simple seasonings and cooking methods

Macrobiotic diet uses simple seasonings.
Such as sea salt, naturally fermented soy sauce, miso, brown rice
vinegar, umeboshi plum vinegar, sesame oil, olive oil etc etc
Occasionally uses other herbs and spices if you are relatively
healthy.

Also cooking methods are simple, too.
Soup, stew, steam,simmer, boiling,
blanching, braising, sauté, stir fry, bake,
pickle etc, and use different techniques
depends on the conditions, or what type
of energy is needed,

Eat in a whole form

In macrobiotic diet, we use almost all parts of the food, including skin,
tops and roots.
Each part of the food has its own nutritional value and energy, and
each food exists and completes in a whole form, and eating only part
of it is not natural or balanced.---- and such a waste!
In fact, usually the most nutritious
part is, for example, in or around the
skin of the grains and vegetables.
For the same reason, avoid or minimize
refined , processed foods.

Yin and Yang Balance

What makes Macrobiotic diet distinguish from
other vegetarian/vegean diet is this yin-yang
philosophy.
Each food has its own energy, yin and yang, and
balancing each other.
And when we eat, the energy in the food interacts
with our own energy and affects us in so many ways.
The goal of Macrobiotic diet is eat foods in and around "center" as
much as possible, instead of "extremes",  to build a sound foundation
so we can lead a well balanced life on physical, emotional and spiritual
level.
