Quiting smoking – Macrobiotic Yin & Yang point of view
Tobacco is yang and alkaline
In Far Eastern medicine, tobacco is classified as a yang substance,
due to its contracting and drying effect.
(more about yin and yang, click here)
And tobacco is somewhat alkaline forming in the blood.
Also, nicotine is very yang.
Yin attracts yang. Acid attracts Alkaline
Our human blood is ph 7.35 to 7.45 in pH, slightly alkaline.
And when this balance is distracted, our body naturally tries to
balance it out.
Modern diet, --with meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, sugar, refined food--,
are all acid forming, which causes all sorts of health problems
(more about acid and alkaline balance, click here).
Also, sugar is extreme yin and acid forming.
So the body(acidic, and yin-nized by sugar) becomes physically
attracted to nicotine (alkaline, yang).
Biochemically, nicotine raises blood sugar level in the blood.
Many smokers, especially chain smokers, tend to have lower blood
sugar level, or hypoglycemic, due to over consumption of animal
foods, salty foods(excess yang).
And this excessive yang-nized dietary pattern makes one crave
more extreme yin foods, such as sugar, alcohol, coffee, etc.
Again, the body is attracted to nicotine(yang) to “balance it out”.
To quit smoking
"Will power" may be important.
But unless you change the dietary pattern, it can be extremely
difficult.
---and guilt follows…..(“I’m so weak!”)
In other words, if you cut down on acid forming food (meat, poultry,
eggs, dairy, sugar, juice, alcoholic drink, refined food), and adopt
more plant based, alkaline forming diet, or macrobiotic diet, your
body naturally lose the appetite for nicotine!
