

Protect Your Skin from Inside
Skin is one of the biggest excretory systems in our body, along with
kidneys,liver and large intestine.
While we cannot take a look at the other internal organs so often, we
can always see the skin.
The conditions of the skin tell you a lot about what is going on inside
our body.
Most of the skin conditions, freckles, pimples, moles, warts, eczema,
etc etc are all discharge of excess.
Some skin troubles may be solved externally, but unless we take care
of underlying causes, it will come back again and again.
It’s always a good idea to avoid extended time of exposure to the
direct sun (UV), and apply sun blocks, however, we also need to think
about the skin issue from more holistic point of view.
Freckles and other dark patches
Freckles are the elimination of excessive simple carbohydrates, and
the result of burning of them when exposed to the sun.
Simple carbohydrates (mono- and disaccharides), includes
refined sugar,honey,fruit sugar(yes, fruits and juice, too!),and
milk sugar
as well as refined flour (white bread/pasta/rice, pastry, cookies,etc)
Energetic point of view
From yin and yang energetic point of view, the yin character of these
substances is more likely to attract to yang sunlight, therefore,
freckles are more likely to appear in summer time, as a result of
excessive sun-exposure.
Also due to the yin character, freckles tend to appear on yin (upper)
part of the body, such as face, shoulder.
If freckles appear more on certain meridians, or the surface area
corresponding to certain organs, it can be the sign that over
consumption of simple carbs has affected these related organs.
For example, freckles on the shoulder (large intestine meridian) may
indicate some troubles in the intestinal functions.
Skin Cancer and Melanoma
Even though the sun is often accused of causing skin cancer, for
thousands of years, people living in the sunnier and warmer climates
have never suffered this diseases.
On the contrary, in the less sunny, northern, industrialized societies,
the rate of skin caners are rapidly increasing.
It seems that the underlying cause can be found the difference in diet
and life style between traditional and modern culture.
Root cause --- Acidic, toxic blood
People in industrialized societies consume large amount of fat, dairy,
sugar, refined foods, oily, greasy foods, chemicals,drugs etc, which all
cause acidic/tocix condition in the blood.
Extended exposure to the sun brings these toxins to the surface, often
resulting in tumor or ruptures.
In fact, numerous studies have shown that a diet high in fat increase
the risk of skin tumors.
Skin cancer is caused primarily by excess intake of those acid-forming
foods, and the sun is just a catalyst which help localize this toxic
excess in the skin.
Other acid-forming includes :
Tropical fruits and vegetables, stimulants (coffee, alcohol), spices, etc
when in excess.
The main cause of Melanoma, on the other hand, is from the typical
modern diet combination, "meat, dairy and sugar", which also cause
acidic/toxic condition in the blood.
From energetic point of view, those foods are categorized “extremes
yin and yang” foods :
Extreme yang -- chicken, eggs, cheese
Extreme yin – sugar, sweets, stimulants, spices, etc
Okinawan People
Okinawa, semi tropical islands of Japan, claims one of the healthiest
places in the world.
Okinawan people, at least until now, have enjoyed the longest life
expectancy on the planet, and the rate of centenarians is one of the
highest.
* since the introduction of western diet, the rate of obesity and cancer
among young generation of Okinawan is one of the highest in Japan
now.(mainly due to the presence of huge US military bases)
Contrary to the common assumptions, many of the elderly, even in
80s, 90s, or 100s of age in Okinawa spend outside, under intense
sun, working in the farm, do not develop skin cancer.
Some researchers focuses on their diet and life style, and concludes
that their plant based diet (mainly rice and land/sea vegetables and
miso soup) is one of the key factors for their long and healthy life.

To protect your skin from inside
Studies have shown vegetable quality foods inhibit tumor growth.
Other studies show that a diet high in whole grains and leafy green
vegetables high in antioxidant help protect the body from cancer and
other ailments.
On the other hand, fats are proven to have a potential to break down
to free radicals, highly destructive molecules, which accelerate the
skin damage and aging of the skin.
Eat more plant based, whole natural foods
Cut down on foods that could cause acidic condition, thus skin
problems mentioned above, especially simple sugar/carbs, as well as
meat, poultry, eggs, and diary.
Replace refined foods with whole foods.
Such as ….
Whole grains, whole grain based bread/pasta.
Beans, bean products as a good quality source of proteins.
Eat less foods of tropical origins and enjoy the local, seasonal
vegetables and fruits.
Eat small portion of sea vegetables everyday.
Have some plant based fermented food for good balance of intestinal
bacteria. (miso, soy sauce, sauerkraut, pickles, etc)
More studies
In 1982, a study by a medical doctor from Auburn, CA reported that a
combination of natural foods diet and sun exposure inhibit cancer, as
well as contribute over all health.
Foods high in antioxidant (vitamin A,C,E,& B complex) as well as zinc
and selenium help slow or prevent unnatural aging of skin.
