Spring Cleansing
Spring!
A new beginning, full of hope and fresh energy.
When you take a close look at the ground or tree branches, you will
find little buds sprouting upward.
The energy is clearly transforming from yin to yang.
Spring is associated with Wood element .
Liver and gall bladder are the organs this season most affects and
synchronizes with.
All the fat and heavy foods built up in the body system, especially in
liver during winter are naturally trying to be cleansed this season.
Yes, spring is the “cleansing season”.
Foods
This is the time when we should eat less to help liver and other
digestive system focus on their “detox and cleansing” job.
Eating too much or heavy foods could make the liver overwork,
disturb its function and block qi, or energy flow, then range of liver-
related problems would occur.
Problems
Physical
Allergy, spring fever, colds, swelling body parts, eye problems,
Emotional
Impatient, anger, frustration, resentment, violence, rudeness,
arrogance, stubbornness, aggression, impulsive personality….
Spring Cleansing tips
Food
Avoid or eat less “too yin or too yang foods” such as meat, eggs,
fish, refined foods, sugar, alcohol, and eat more neutral foods such
as whole grains and beans.
To nurture liver, eating young, green plants with light flavor is
suitable.
e.g. sprouts, spring greens, asparagus, spring cabbage, onions,
azuki bean….
Chew well and be gentle on your digestive system.
Cooking
Use less salt or seasonings.
Cook for short time at higher temperature, such as light sauté, stir
fry, soup.
Or pickled, salad --- not too much raw food, though, which can
dampen digestive fire---.
Avoid using too much oil, which can clog the liver.

Detox
The body is naturally trying to cleanse itself this season.
So this is the best time to do detox.
Soak your feet in hot water with sea salt. ----with essential oil might
be nice.
Exercise, go to sauna or steam room to sweat toxins out.
Herbal feet patch is available at natural food store, too.
“Mini Fasting” is also a good idea to give the liver some rest and re-
energize.
If you skip meal, dinner is the best since liver does its job during the
night,
Massage, foot reflexology or acupuncture also helps circulation and
metabolism, which helps detoxification.
Choose the detox day when the moon is full or new to maximize the
effect.
