Sun Block
Basically, there are 2 kinds of rays from the sun.
UVB rays, which is short-length, affects the skin’s outer layer
and largely responsible for sun burn and considered to cause 2
kinds of skin cancer.
UVA rays, which is longer length, penetrate more deeply into
your skin, can damage the skin’s DNA and cause cancer.
And ultraviolet radiation can also weaken the skin’s immune
system, making it less able to fight off cancer.
A tan is a defense mechanism; the body produces melanin, the
brown pigment, to protect itself from UV radiation but only after
the skin DNA is damaged.
When you go out,
1 Try to avoid direct sunshine
I know it’s sometimes impossible!
2 Use sun block.
It’s recommended to apply it 20minutes before the exposure
and reapply it frequently.
However, check out the active ingredients used in sun block,
because some chemicals are considered harmful to your body,
such as
Benzophone-3
Oxybenzone
You can buy better ones at health food shops.
Underlying Cause
Traditionally, even among people in tropical climates where the
sun is extremely intense, skin cancer has been almost unknown.
In fact, in Okinawa, semi-tropical islands in Japan, people are
considered world's healthiest population, with longest life
expectancy.
People are out in the sun all day, even those in 70s, 80s,90s
and 100!, working in the farm, without sun screens. And they are
healthy as horse!
Why?
Some researchers found out that the secret may be what they
eat.
Grain(rice), miso soup, lots of vegetables and sea weed and
some fish.
Far away from modern diet of meat, dairy, sugar and refined
foods.
Modern Diet, extreme acid-forming develop skin cancer risk
Meat, sugar, refined/processed foods are all extremely acid-
forming, causing acidic (toxic) condition in the blood.
Especially refined carbohydrates
Watching diet can help fight off sun damage and the cancer.
Eating colorful vegetables and fruits are good for summer.
Foods in rich in antioxidant can reduce inflammation.
Carrots—rich in beta-carotene
Broccoli---rich in vitamin C
Grapes and berries appear to keep sun-related cancer cells to
spread, in lab tests.
Eating some spicy food in summer sounds like a good idea, too.
Ginger, garlic, onion, turmeric, and rosemary have strong anti-
inflammatory properties. but not too much!
Green tea, whose active compounds ,called polyphenols, can
help prevent UV radiation related skin cancer.
And don’t forget to hydrate your body, inside/out. Drink a lot of
water and apply lotion or body mist frequently when exposed to
the sun.
Be ready for summer wisely, and enjoy the sunny days!
